Overview

The first HeDiSC Workshop on Open Source Software for Control Systems held at Lugano, Switzerland, June 30th - July 1st 2009 focused on the use and development of free open source software (FOSS) for control systems. The main objective of this workshop was twofold:

  • to provide a forum for developers of software for control systems from Europe and Latin America to discuss and compare different design and implementation techniques, and,
  • to promote the use of FOSS for control systems providing tutorials and introductory presentations explaining their benefits.

Venue

The workshop was celebrated in Lugano. Lugano is located in the south of Switzerland in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino which borders Italy. Lugano lies at the edge of Lake Lugano, which is situated between the lakes Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como, south of the Alps. The city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. Both Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains provide a wide variety of outdoor activities. Lugano is, also, home to a number of historic buildings and museums.

Participants

More than 40 persons from 14 different countries assisted to the workshop. We were happy to have participants from 10 different Latin-American countries.
